| 2/6/25 | ![]() Drumwell Episode 12 2025 Drumming Goals pt 2 | Welcome to Drumwell Episode 12!This month is an update on my progress during my January Challenge. After a few weeks of 30 plants and 30 movements (of which there were many more in both cases), as well as doing the work behind the kit, both with skills practice, personal practice (for upcoming gigs), rehersals and shows, I've found a noticeable difference in my power and stamina which is what I was going for.I go through all that I've been doing, and break down various parts.Remember, this is all just my own experience and experiment, and I don't recommend doing anything without the correct medical and professional advice. Thanks for listening, and happy drumming! | 1h 07m 46s | ||||||
| 1/6/25 | ![]() Drumwell Episode 11 - 2025 Drumming goals. | Happy 2025!I wanted to start the year by refecting a little on the amazing conversations we had in 2024. The general consensus? Good movement daily is key to keeping our bodies healthy and ready to play! Pair that with a good diet, practice routine and exercise regime, and you'll most certainly achieve being 1% better each day, if not more. I discuss what I'm trying to achieve to start 2025, and how I'm going to do it. My 30 day challenge for January involves 30 days, eat 30 plants per week, do 30 different moves per week, at home pad practice 30 mins twice per week, plus twice a week behind the kit for at least an hour each day. I'm exercising 6 days per week as normal, but trying to incorporate some new moves into my routine, with a big focus on core stability and balance exercises. I'd also like to do pull ups, and pistol squats. So I've started doing things to make that happen, doing resistance band pull ups and a few moves to help with pistol squats. I'm doing this to make sure my body is in prime form for the upcoming Euro/UK tour with King Parrot. I'm hoping to continue these good habits on the road, albeit with some adaptations to what's available. I'd love to hear what your 2025 goals are! Add them in the comments. See you on the next one,Toddy. | 29m 13s | ||||||

| 9/6/24 | ![]() Episode 7 - Prehab and Funtional movements - Sept 2024 | Welcome to Episode 7 of the Drumwell Podcast! I wanted to go somewhere a little different this month. I've heard the term "Prehab" being used a fair bit in recent times, and it got me thinking, what if we could target and strengthen areas of our body where repetitive movements cause injuries, well before the injury even has a chance to develop? The Funtional Movement Training course that I completed a couple of years back was excellent in that it was focussed on treating the cause rather than just the sypmtoms. But what if we could train our bodies well before this? Two of the movements I learned at the very beginning of my course was the Hip Hinge, and the Sit to Stand Squat. Both of these movements are essential for building a strong posterior chain as well as a strong core, which in my opinion is very necessary for longevity in drumming. So let's dive in to these moves on this episode! Disclaimer: I'm not a professional in body movements and I'm only sharing my own opinions and experiences. I would highly recommend that you consult with a trainer, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, or another trusted professional in order to create good form and move correctly. Some videos for reference:Hip Hinge with a stick: https://youtu.be/t4ouk4TmrS8?si=dh4s5ILcBFQMpZNCSit to Stand Squat: https://youtu.be/jV9wSXIBSB0?si=E7ZWxORVkm7lRJRN | 39m 00s | ||||||

| 7/6/24 | ![]() Drumwell Podcast Episode 5 - Austin D'Amond - July 2024 | Welcome to Episode 5 of the Drumwell Podcast! This month I had the pleasure of chatting to my good friend Austin D'Amond (Chimaira, Devildriver, Vended, Bleed The Sky) about all things drumming, exercise, diet, sobriety and general wellbeing! We had a fantastic conversation and really get some great insight into Austins approach to drums, health, wellness and life in general. I first met Austin in 2012 at the NAMM show in SoCal, and over the years have had the pleasure of touring together, workouts, great hangs and conversations, as well as seeing each other grow in life and music. This was a fantastic free flowing conversation and I'm very grateful for Austin giving me his time and insights from his many years of playing at an elite level. I hope you enjoy listening to the conversation as much as we enjoyed having it!Drum well, friends!Toddy. | 58m 50s | ||||||
| 6/6/24 | ![]() Drumwell Podcast Episode 4 - Art Cruz - 6/6/2024 | Welcome to Drumwell episode 4, where I had a great chat with my friend and amazing drummer, Art Cruz of Lamb Of God, ex - Prong, ex - Winds of Plague. We had a fantastic chat backstage at the recent Knotfest Australia festival after Arts set that night with LOG. As with all of my guests so far, Art has his own methods for keeping his body primed to not only play super accurate, but also put on a great visual performance every night. We dive into back and body aches, mindfulness, exercise routines and so much more! I don't tend to do much editing with these podcast episodes as I like to keep it as an authentic discussion the way it happened, so there is a little background noise and a guest spot from King Parrots own Slatts! Anyway, I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed the discussion. If you do enjoy this podcast, I would appreciate a rating and review on whatever platform you listen on, and even a share to your socials. Thanks for listening!Toddy. | 31m 40s | ||||||
| 5/6/24 | ![]() Drumwell Episode 3 - Donald Tardy - 6/5/2024 | Welcome to Drumwell Episode 3! This month I have the awesome Donald Tardy of Obituary on the show. He's been playing at an elite level consistently for decades, and in my opinion, he just gets better as the years go by. I've been lucky enough to have toured with Obituary a coupe of times over the years, and seeing Donald play every night is absolutely magic. His approach to drumming and life in general involves day to day movement, keeping active in a life sense, good balance between work, life, passions and leisure, and of course playing a lot of drums and music in general.I love his approach, and I hope you enjoy our discussion! Thanks for listening! Please leave a rating and review on whatever platform you're listening on.Enjoy!Toddy. | 39m 13s | ||||||
| 4/13/24 | ![]() *BONUS EPISODE* Drumwell ep.2 - Dave Haley - 13/04/2024 | In this episode, I sit down with Aussie drumming legend and my good mate Dave Haley (Psycroptic, Werewolves, The Amenta, King, Crisis Act, Abramelin, and more). We dive deep into Daves approach to his extreme style of playing, his routines around practice, diet, exercise and also the ways he's approached injuries. When I decided to make this podcast, Dave was the guy I had in mind to be my first guest. Over the years he and I have had some great conversations around maintaining our bodies for drumming, and he has certainly been a great influence and supportive friend to me in my own journey. I hope you enjoy listening to this chat as much as we enjoyed having it! Thanks for listening to this Podcast. If you enjoy it, please leave a rating and review! Toddy. | 47m 11s | ||||||
| 4/6/24 | ![]() Drumwell ep.1 Todd Hansen - 6/4/2024 | Welcome to the first episode of the Drumwell Podcast! The monthly podcast where we chat to drummers about what they do away from the kit, in order to perform behind the kit.In this episode, Todd discusses his own journey in drumming and wellness, and gives you an idea of how this podcast came about, and what kind of topics will be discussed. Enjoy this first episode, and stay tuned for some fantastic guests! "After a recent back issue which at one stage was starting to have an impact on my playing, I went the route of seeking professionals to fix the problem rather than just treating the symptoms. This ongoing process has led to several interesting conversations with my drumming friends and peers about various issues they've faced and how they navigate them. So I figured I would press record on these conversations to share with others out there who may find this interesting!"Thanks for listening! Please leave a rating and review.Toddy. | 35m 51s | ||||||
