Jesus is perhaps the most controversial & influential person in all of human history. Most people have thoughts, opinions and questions about who He was (and is). Some even claim to know His will or be doing His work. Is that true? How can they be so sure? In the book of John, one of Jesus’ biographers records eight poetic metaphors Jesus uses to describe Himself. What do each of these things mean? And how might understanding them alter the way we see Him, the world, and even ourselves?

Forty-seven percent of American adults are single; more than any time in history. Yet, despite the apps, algorithms, matchmaking services, and well-meaning aunties indiscriminately handing out your number, it still feels impossible to find someone. Life devolves into a sad string of awkward texts, disgusting DM’s, bad dates, and unsatisfying hookups. Then there’s all the married people weighing in with what you ought to change to be more marketable. Because obviously life doesn’t start until you’ve locked down your special someone. Is that true? What if it’s not in the cards for you? Why’s it taking so long? What do you do with all your loneliness, longings, hopes, and heartbreak? How did we get here & where do we go from here?

There’s something exciting and adventurous about all the potential possibilities. But truth is, it’s tough to build a meaningful life with one eye on the horizon and one foot out the door. At some point, you need to settle down somewhere. But you just want everything to be perfect. I get that. But—what if the life you’re looking for isn’t about moving on, but going deeper right where you are? What would happen if you settled into the soil of your current reality & poured your passion into the people, places & problems sitting right in front of you?

You can’t escape it. And most of us don’t want to. It gives us all the feels we’ve waited all year for. We come to associate these songs with our own stories, but what are their stories? Where did they come from? What do they mean? What makes them so relatable? This month, we’re going to pull back the curtain on some of the most iconic Christmas carols, because behind each of these nostalgic tunes is an inspiring tale that points to the true purpose of Christmas. And through these stories, we’ll learn to live better stories ourselves all year long, ones that hopefully look a lot more like Christ. Our title of this series is LYRICAL
