| 8/12/26 | #237 Why Classical Acupuncture Is the Missing Piece with Dr. MG McCullough | This one's a ripper, legends. I sat down with Dr. MG McCullough, a classical acupuncturist who trained under Ann Cecil-Sterman in the Jeffrey Yuen lineage, and we went deep - like, Jenga-block-pulled-from-the-middle deep - on what modern acupuncture school actually leaves out. MG's whole thing is that we didn't just simplify Chinese medicine when it got exported West, we pulled the center block out of the tower. The primaries got taught, the channels, sinews, luo vessels, divergences and eight extraordinaries got filed under "extra," and now most acupuncturists are running triage clinics instead of practicing the full system. We get into why that matters, why it's not anyone's fault, what it'd take to rebuild the whole thing from the ground up, and where MG's taking her own practice next. Dr. MG & Mason discuss: The Jenga analogy - how acupuncture education pulled the center block (the classical framework) and left everyone thinking they had the full foundation when they didn't Why the "secondary" channels - sinews, luo vessels, divergences, eight extraordinaries - aren't extra at all, they're there to protect the primaries, and skipping them is the whole problem The barefoot doctor origin story, self-colonization of TCM in the '50s, and why triage-model training became the default for an entire profession The Santa Claus story - MG's honest reckoning with believing "the system" works the way she was taught, and what it took to let that go Why 20% of US acupuncture schools have closed since 2020, and whether that's a crisis or an opening to rebuild the whole model "It's not magic, it's just medicine" - why full-system results look magical when they're actually just complete The starfish story - high-volume triage practice vs. slower, deeper healing work, and why both have a place The retreat model MG's brainstorming - five-day intensives built for real neuroplastic change, so people go home actually different, not just patched up for an hour Full circle on the barefoot doctor thread - what home visits taught MG about how nothing in someone's life stays hidden once a doctor actually shows up "Are you a stress denier?" - why "everything's fine" is often the biggest red flag in the room Guest Bio Dr. MG McCullough is a classical acupuncturist who trained under Ann Cecil-Sterman - a teacher in Jeffrey Yuen's lineage who's been on the SuperFeast podcast before, so go dig up those episodes if this one hits. MG's outspoken about the structural gap she sees in acupuncture education, and she's in the middle of a big life transition - moving to the south of France, just north of Montpellier - as she reshapes her practice toward teaching and retreat-style intensives. She also hosts her own show, The Original Medicine Podcast. | 7/29/26 | #236 Tonic Herbalism, Liver Flow & Using Your Emotions (Properly) with Helen Padarin | This one starts light and ends deep. We get into Gynostemma - one of those rare herbs you can take daily without throwing yourself off. Proper longevity tonic, not hype. Then Asparagus Root ("Heavenly Gate") - big for adrenals, reproductive health, and actually getting some perspective when life's a bit chaotic. But the real thread here is the liver. There's a clear pattern right now-people sitting on a lot of anger, resentment, frustration… and trying to "let it go" without ever working with it. Problem is, that's not junk-it's energy. Life force. So instead of suppressing it, we flip it: anger becomes information, resentment becomes direction. It tells you what matters and where your boundaries are. That's where liver health comes in. It's the "general"-the system that gives you clarity and direction. When it's sluggish, everything feels stuck. We also get into liver/gallbladder flushes-not as some extreme detox, but as basic upkeep (if done properly). Prep matters. No shortcuts. Underneath all of it: you can't think your way into health. You've got to feel it, move it, and actually live in your body. In this episode, we covered: Gynostemma (The Longevity Legend): We chatted about why this tonic is the absolute "blue zone" powerhouse you need in your daily rotation. It's more adaptogenic than ginseng, and it's one of those rare herbs that's safe for constant, daily consumption. Asparagus Root ("Heavenly Gate"): The ultimate Yin-Yang balancer for your adrenals and uterus. It's your go-to for getting perspective and flying above the "10,000 things" that keep you stuck. The Big Rebrand: We're retiring "I Am Gaia" - stay tuned for the new rhythm, officially becoming "Women's Rhythm." Sometimes you just need to update the energy to align with the truth. Anger as Life Force: Forget the "just let it go" advice. We're reframing resentment. It's essential information that defines your boundaries. Use it. The Flush is Foundational: We're deep-diving into why liver/gallbladder flushes are essential, modern maintenance. Forget the conspiracies; this is about clearing the sludge so your gallbladder can actually fire. The 9v9 Prep: You can't just jump into the deep end. We broke down why the "9v9" veggie challenge (9 cups, 9 days) is the non-negotiable sweep-out your gut needs before you start clearing the sludge. Embodiment is the Goal: True healing is an inside job. It's time to move from "head-based" thinking to feeling your way through the matrix. Links & Resources: Find Helen: Check out Well Embodied for bookings, courses, and more info on the upcoming flush. The Community Flush: Get your gallbladder firing and connect with a community that's doing the real, visceral work. The next round kicks off August 24th! | 7/27/26 | #235 Laying the Ground for Jing & Cultivation with Benny Fergusson | Right, we're kicking off this new series on the Three Treasures - Jing, Qi, and Shen - and I've brought in an absolute legend to help us navigate this. Benny is a fixture around here, living just a stone's throw from the studio, and he's the perfect guide for this series. He comes from a hardcore performance background - sports, movement, the works - but he's spent years deep in the trenches of neurosomatic movement and nervous system work, which makes him the perfect bridge between high-level performance and ancient Taoist principles. We're starting with Jing, but forget the dusty, abstract textbook definitions. Benny's all about the "slow melt." He's here to talk about why we've all been drifting out of alignment and calling it "normal." We've basically turned the health space into another arena of performance where we're constantly searching for the next "optimal" diet or training style to fix us, while our nervous system - the canary in the coal mine - is trying to whisper that we're burning the candle at both ends. We're overriding fatigue, pushing through tension, and treating our body like a project rather than a relationship. Benny's work is all about coming back home to the body. He challenges us to stop treating stillness as just another "de-stress" ritual to check off a packed calendar. Instead, he reframes cultivation as gardening: it's about pulling the weeds - those unresolved tensions and habits - so you can actually grow something. It's not about adding more; it's about clearing space. We dig into why we're so good at ignoring those early signals, and how to stop treating your body like a problem to solve. It's an eye-opening conversation on remembering what's already there - protecting your base, honoring the whispers, and building a life that doesn't drain you dry. It's not easy, but it is real. Let's get to it. Key Points We Touch On Why the Three Treasures offer a different way of understanding health Cultivation as a lifelong relationship, not another wellness practice Coming home to your body instead of outsourcing your health Why stillness is essential for self-awareness The body as a relationship, not a problem to solve Learning to listen before trying to fix Protecting your essence in a world that constantly drains it How identity, conditioning, and performance disconnect us from ourselves Authenticity as the foundation of genuine health Preparing the ground for the journey through Jing, Qi, and Shen Resources: Websites / Platforms movementmonk.xyz - Benny's website Courses / Programs The Body Trust Experience - a new offering Benny's launching to help establish the foundations of this work Explore Our Transformative Program Onboarding/intro courses Practice Material (EP#56) Embodied Movement with the Movement Monk Benny Fergusson | — | ||||||

| 8/5/25 | #222 Re-Embodying Herbalism in the Age of AI with Stephanie Hazel | Mason and Stephanie Hazel dive deep into the real talk about herbalism and healing in today's AI-driven world. They kick off by revisiting Stephen Harrod Buhner's "heart perception" and stress how crucial it is to actually feel that connection, especially as AI becomes more prevalent. Stephanie calls out the worrying trend of new herbalists losing touch with plants, often due to a lack of hands-on experience and over-reliance on ready-made formulations. They both hammer home the importance of sensory engagement—tasting, smelling, touching, and truly observing herbs—arguing that this embodied learning sticks with you way better than just theory. The conversation shifts to the idea of oscillating between rational thought and embodied sensing, emphasizing that true wisdom in healing comes from blending both. Stephanie warns against getting too caught up in hyper-scientific jargon, suggesting that language grounded in sensory experience, like Chinese medicine energetics, is more accessible and effective. They link society's increasing disembodiment to mental health struggles and the addictive pull of digital spaces, offering practical tips for grounding yourself in daily life. Ultimately, they argue that AI's efficiency highlights the irreplaceable human capacity for embodied sensing and intuitive insight in healing, something no machine can replicate. Timestamps: 00:00:34 - Heart Perception & Embodiment: Mason and Stephanie reflect on their previous conversation about Stephen Harrod Buhner's concept of heart perception and the importance of embodying this skillset, particularly in the context of rising AI. 00:01:05 - The Elder Tree Podcast & Stephen Harrod Buhner: Stephanie shares how their previous discussion inspired a tribute episode to Stephen Harrod Buhner on her podcast, The Elder Tree. 00:03:33 - The Decline of Herbalism & Lack of Embodiment: Stephanie and Mason discuss concerns about the dwindling connection to herbs among new practitioners, often due to a lack of hands-on experience and reliance on pre-compounded formulations. 00:07:20 - The Importance of Sensory Engagement with Herbs: Stephanie highlights the crucial role of taste, smell, touch, and observation in truly understanding herbs, arguing that this embodied learning is more memorable and profound than theoretical knowledge. 00:10:51 - Oscillating Between Rational and Embodied Sensing: They explore the dynamic interplay between rational analysis and embodied sensing in understanding herbs, emphasizing how a blend of both leads to deeper insights. 00:21:26 - Beyond Hyper-Scientific Language in Healing: Stephanie cautions against solely relying on scientific terminology in natural medicine, advocating for language that is grounded in sensory experience and accessible to the body, like traditional Chinese medicine energetics. 00:36:21 - The Societal Impact of Disembodiment: The conversation broadens to the wider implications of a lack of embodiment in society, linking it to mental health struggles and the addictive nature of virtual digital spaces. 00:40:51 - Cultivating Embodiment in Daily Life: Practical tips are offered for incorporating embodied practices into daily routines, such as mindful engagement with herbal supplements and spending time in nature. 00:49:10 - AI and the Future of Healing: They discuss how AI's efficiency in data analysis highlights the unique human capacity for embodied sensing and intuitive insight in healing practices, which AI cannot replicate. 01:07:44 - Yarrow and the Wounded Healer Archetype: Stephanie shares a powerful client story illustrating the "leap of insight" in diagnosis, drawing on the mythopoetic story of Yarrow to highlight the importance of non-rational understanding in healing. Resources Mentioned: Stephen Harrod Buhner's Work: Referenced for his concept of "heart perception" and sensing the metaphysical background of the world. The Elder Tree Podcast: Stephanie Hazel's podcast, which featured a tribute episode to Stephen Harrod Buhner. David Abram, Becoming Animal: Recommended for its exploration of grounding analytical thought and language into the senses. Stephanie Hazel's "The Wild Edge of Herbalism" Course: Mentioned as a way for practitioners and individuals to deepen their relationship with plants and their own intuition, with a "Plant Allies" taster option. The online course starts on August 14th. If you found this conversation insightful, subscribe to the podcast for more deep dives and share this episode with someone who needs to hear it! | — | ||||||
| 7/23/25 | #221 We Are Back! Mason & Tahnee Return to the SuperFeast Podcast | Hello, hello, hello everybody! We are back in the podcast studio, and I, Mason Taylor, founder of SuperFeast, am resuming my role as host. Joining me today is Tahnee, who will be making occasional appearances as a guest, especially focusing on women's health and cultivation practices. Tahnee also shares about her own podcast, "Body of Wisdom." Mason and Tahnee dive into the fascinating stage of SuperFeast's existence, discussing how the business navigates commercial demands while upholding its foundational "source essence" – the ontological storytelling that defines its purpose: "to dramatically reduce disease and degeneration, creating super humans who may enter into the realm of elderhood." They explore the "birth pain" of growing a business and draw parallels between birthing a business and birthing a child, highlighting the unique "male opportunity" in creating something tangible that lives forever. The conversation delves into the core tenets of Daoism, particularly the concept of "from the Dao comes the one, then the two (yin yang), then the three (Jing, Qi, Shen), and from the three you get everything (the 10,000 things)." They emphasize the importance of not getting "trapped in the world of 10,000 things" – the endless details, protocols, and symptoms – and instead focusing on cultivating the "three treasures" (Jing, Qi, and Shen) for a well-rounded and meaningful life, aiming to "slide into the grave light" rather than deteriorating. Mason expresses his desire to re-engage with the "enjoyment of the 10,000" while always linking it back to the foundational three treasures. They discuss the importance of cleansing the "heart mind" and cultivating an inner antenna to navigate life's initiations and make authentic choices. The goal is to move beyond external validation and dogma, fostering a deeply personal cultivation practice that prepares one for elderhood and a "good death." The episode concludes with a look ahead at future topics, including interviews with practitioners and discussions about specific herbs, all framed within the context of the three treasures and the ultimate mystery of the Dao. Tahnee also shares about her "Birth Magic Course" and the upcoming "Daoist Energetics" course, inviting listeners to connect with them and stay tuned for regular episodes. It's a rich conversation about ancient wisdom applied to modern life, business, and personal well-being. Key Insight From This Episode: 00:00:00 - Introduction: Mason and Tahnee return to the SuperFeast podcast, discussing their roles. 00:02:31 - SuperFeast's Evolution: Navigating commercial growth while maintaining the business's "source essence" and purpose. 00:04:35 - The "Birth Pain" of Business: Parallels between birthing a business and birthing a child, and the "male opportunity" in creation. 00:11:42 - Daoist Core Tenets: Exploring the Dao, Yin Yang, Jing Qi Shen, and the 10,000 things, and the importance of cultivation over symptoms. 00:14:52 - Cultivating the Three Treasures: Protecting essence (Jing), activating energetic flow (Qi), and expressing unique spirit (Shen). 00:18:36 - Sovereignty and Inner Antenna: Moving beyond external dogma to cultivate a personal practice and make authentic choices. 00:24:04 - Re-engaging with the 10,000 Things: Mason's desire to find enjoyment in the material world while staying grounded in the three treasures. 00:30:43 - The Art of Dying Well: Discussing mortality, grief, and how cultivation prepares one for elderhood and a "good death." 00:04:35 - Tahnee's Offerings: Information on Tahnee's "Birth Magic Course" and the "Daoist Energetics" course. | 3/4/24 | #218 Journey To The West with Sibyl & Zoe Coldham | Sibyl and Zoe Coldham join Mason on the show today, to share about their documentary, Journey To The West, an award-winning film that follows the journey of Chinese medicine into Western culture, exploring the roots of the profession, and the many obstacles it has faced, especially within the realm of consciousness held by mainstream medicine and allopathic thought. Journey to the West navigates between an in-depth exploration of Chinese medicine's struggle for legitimacy and a serene unveiling of Chinese medical philosophy. Weaving historical and contemporary plot lines, to reveal the intricacies of a profession that seeks acceptance and understanding by the Western medical model at large. Throughout the podcast Sibyl and Zoe speak passionately from the heart, discussing the film's inception, creative process and their overarching intention; to tell the story of Chinese medicine in a way that is accessible to a wide audience. The women express that limitations in the Western education system, including the curriculum often offered, stand as great obstacles to the continuing legacy and authentic practice of the craft. Highlighting that the methodologies of the scientific model, particularly the placebo effect as applied to acupuncture, should never get in the way of the actual medicine. They go to share why energetic medicine can not be accurately measured in the same way as a pharmaceutical drug, where the placebo is a dead entity, and results against an active constituent will never compare. Western medicine's political terrain is also covered, particularly within the context of the UK's National Health Scheme, who's views on Chinese medicine differ greatly from those here in Australia. An aspect of the conversation that allows us to understand the influence of social ideology on the integration of Chinese medicine and acupuncture into mainstream systems of healthcare at large. The duo emphasise the importance of understanding the philosophy and principles of Chinese medicine and the need for practitioners to continue their work with patience and perseverance. An illuminating chat today, offering many thought provoking concepts for us all to marinate on. Dive in and enjoy. Sibyl, Zoe & Mason discuss: - The challenges Chinese medicine faces in the West. - The scientific model and its limitations when applied to Chinese medicine. - Where Chinese medicine fits within an allopathic system. - Why Chinese medicine can't change to appease the limitations of the education system. | 2/26/24 | #217 Preconception & Naturopathic Care with Jennifer Ward | Today, Tahnee welcomes Naturopath Jennifer Ward of Halsa Health onto the show. Jennifer specialises in women's health, particularly in preconception, pregnancy and postpartum care. The women share a beautiful conversation surrounding preconception, what it is, what it entails, the role diet, lifestyle and stress play in hormonal health and why both women and men need to share the load when it comes to fertility and conception. Throughout their chat, Tahnee and Jennifer explore the intricacies of preconception, delving into the many elements that are involved on the journey of preparing the body and psyche to carry and birth a child. Jennifer, through her extensive work within a holistic and clinical setting, emphases the importance of an individualised approach, one that involves simple, sustainable, daily health practices to create an environment in which the body feels safe to host a growing child. Jennifer highlights that ideally fertility is engaged with as a daily practice, and not thought of as something that is only tended if and when a woman wants to become pregnant. Offering practical advice on managing stress and tuning into the body's natural rhythms through simple acts such as getting enough sleep, spending time in nature, and practicing gratitude. The women explore the nuanced balance between being informed and becoming overwhelmed by the plethora of information available on preconception care, and the often overlooked role that male partners play in the preconception process overall. With attention called to the fact that their health and stress levels also play a crucial role in a successful conception. This episode is a reminder that the journey to motherhood and beyond is deeply personal, and that women, by taking the time to listen to their bodies and seek support from the modalities and practitioners that feel aligned with their innate and individual needs can make all the difference. After all each woman is the oracle of her own living system. For those interested in learning more about Jennifer's work or seeking personalised support, find her at Halsa Health, and the links below. Jennifer & Tahnee discuss: - Body literacy and the menstrual cycles. - The importance of preconception care for both women and men. - How diet, lifestyle and stress influence fertility and hormonal health. - Embracing preconception as a long term daily practice. - The connection between diet culture and nutrient deficiencies in women. | 2/19/24 | #216 The Blue Zones Uncovered with Dan Sipple & Marcus Pearce | Mason, and long time SuperFeast friends, Dan Sipple and Marcus Pearce join forces today for an insightful conversation around diet, lifestyle and longevity in the world's Blue Zones, and how the quality of life experienced by the individuals living in these areas is cultivated through joy, community, resilience and pace. The tread that weaves itself so gracefully throughout this conversation is one of unbridled self expression, of the value in allowing ourselves the freedom to include and relish in the aspects of our lived experience that we most enjoy, those feel like a balm not only to our bodies and hearts, but our souls as well. We're given insight on these musings as Marcus shares from his experiences spending time with the people of Ikaria, an island located on the coast of Greece in the Eastern Aegean Sea. Here the people live slow and in community, moments are savoured and enjoyed, alcohol is commonly consumed but rarely in excess, the same goes with meat. Things get done in the time it takes to do them and deadlines are not really a thing. The pace and the variants considered essential for life are vastly different to those that we are indoctrinated to esteem through the Westernised systems that the majority of us are engaged in, with motivation for "success" often derived from pursuits laced in capitalism. Listening to Marcus, Dan, and Mason discuss research on the factors that contribute to wellbeing and longevity in the Blue Zones worldwide, we can identify that it is not the frantic striving for shinier, more, better, higher, younger, that enables a human to flourish, it is in fact the very essence of the dutiful notion of chop wood, carry water, and not duty as in oppression, more so an agreement with what is, carried forward allowing space to enjoy the simple yet enriching facets of life that can only be accessed in the present with presence. We're introduced to the fact that when measuring the two separately, social connection has a more potent positive influence on health than diet, and those that have the most abundant sense of health are embracing both in equal measure. In the field of wellness individual's are so often told (and sold) that health is something that can only be accessed on the other side of "clean" living, and that longevity is derived from the perfect morning routine, nutrient intake, exercise and supplement regime. However in reality often the people that live the longest (and happiest) lives are those that are living in joyful communion with the things that they enjoy, vices included. We've all seen or heard the stories of the 100+ year old woman or man who attributes their longevity to their daily cigarette, coffee or can of coca cola. Centenarians are not exclusively green juice drinking yogini's or those who engage in a multifaceted wellness routine, Many are those that live simply, at natures pace, in community with purpose and without too much stress. Those who are culturally rich. How your life looks is not nearly as important as how your life feels, for you, regardless of the thoughts/opinions of an external audience. It is not always accessible for those living in the psyche of the Western grid to live like the inhabitants of the Blue Zones, however what is accessible is the knowledge of a different way, and the inspiration to include more of what and who you love in your days, and that that is often more powerful than any perfected way of living. Mason, Dan & Marcus discuss: - The Blue Zones diet controversy. - Adapting Blue Zone lifestyles to a modern setting. - Traditional lifestyle and its influence on health. - Social life over diet for longevity. - Authenticity and success, what it is and how you measure it. - The power of adopting an individualised approach to health.
