| 3/13/26 | ![]() #42 - Mare Odhner - La Regina e il Cuore dell’Accademia | For more than 30 years, Mare Odhner was the heart of the Academy school store. From behind the counter, she ran more than a place to buy books and grab snacks — it became a hub of student life. A place where students came to laugh, vent, get advice, and feel at home. Generations of students knew her on a first-name basis — Mare — and if you passed through the Academy during those years, chances are you knew her too.Mare shares her life beyond the bookstore — immigrating from Italy, growing up in South Philadelphia, blending faith traditions, and the love she shared with her late husband, Tony. We talk about what the Academy community meant to her, the realities of being a full-time caregiver for her mother today, and how cooking is reconnecting her to her Italian roots.Plus, Mare helps bring back show-and-tell, sharing a look at her growing bourbon collection and much more...Welcome to episode forty-two, where we unpack the life of the Queen and Heart of the Academy.Elevate the ExperienceHelp bring better audio, video, and filmed episodes to life: Venmo. | 3/6/26 | ![]() #41 - Brendan Pitcairn - Create A Village | Brendan Pitcairn grew up as the kid who didn’t quite have his tribe yet. So he went into the woods—spending his time fishing and hunting. What began as isolation and escape slowly became mastery—and eventually purpose. Today, Brendan is a husband, father, outdoorsman, and mentor passionate about guiding the next generation of boys back toward adventure, brotherhood, and the natural and spiritual world. Along the way he worked in the mental health field serving low-income families and faced a life-altering diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome—often called the “suicide disease” because of its severity—shortly after becoming a father. Through it all, Brendan says the best decision he ever made was marrying his wife, who has walked beside him through pain, healing, and raising their twin sons.In this conversation, Brendan reflects on faith, friendship, and finding your tribe. After his uncle passed, one of Brendan’s 10 year olds comforted him with simple certainty: “Don’t worry, Dad, everything's okay. He’s in heaven now, happy, and free from his earthly body.” In that moment, one thought kept coming back to him: this is why we pay for this tuition.Welcome to episode forty-one.Elevate the ExperienceHelp bring better audio, video, and filmed episodes to life: VenmoI tithe 10% of all contributions—half to the All Secure Foundation (supporting soldiers’ transition home) and half to the Academy of the New Church High School.Stay ConnectedInstagram: @ethan.c.lewinA Note from MeI’m inspired by the stories people carry, the power of honest feedback, and the magic that happens when creative minds connect. | 2/6/26 | ![]() #37 - Thorne Pendleton - Brain Surgery to Bali | Although just 28, Thorne Pendleton has already lived a few lifetimes. At 14, he survived a giant fusiform brain aneurysm. By sophomore year of high school he had missed nearly 100 days of school. Detached and looking for discipline, he left home to attend an all-boys boarding school in New England, an experience that helped shape his independence and outlook. After high school, a planned gap year stretched into something bigger. On his 18th birthday, Thorne made a simple rule: never live more than five minutes from the ocean. That pulled him through Singapore and eventually to Indonesia, where he worked, immersed himself in local life and culture, and explored the islands in search of surf—especially around Uluwatu, Bali. University followed, on Australia’s Gold Coast. He bounced through a mix of jobs and learned quickly what suited him (and what didn’t). This included scraping boat hulls underwater, modeling, working at Alfred‘s Apartment, laying cement, and technology sales. Over time, one thing became clear: he hates working for other people. These days, Thorne lives in Jakarta, Indonesia and is building Pasola Farms, a project rooted in cigar tobacco and named after a brutal tribal ritual - choosing farming over screens and distractions as a way back to what really matters. Not bad for 28.Welcome to episode thirty-seven.Elevate the ExperienceHelp bring better audio, video, and filmed episodes to life: VenmoI tithe 10% of all contributions—half to the All Secure Foundation (supporting soldiers’ transition home) and half to the Academy of the New Church High School.Stay ConnectedConnect: @ethan.c.lewinA Note from MeI’m inspired by the stories people carry, the power of honest feedback, and the magic that happens when creative minds connect. | 10/24/25 | ![]() #24 - Curtis Childs - Spiritual Warfare | Why would your own mind try to tear you down? Curtis Childs and I explore that question through the lens of spirituality, mental health, and the unseen influences that shape our inner world. Curtis—host of Off The Left Eye and a lifelong student of Emanuel Swedenborg’s teachings—shares how faith, awareness, and understanding the thoughts that harm us can help us separate from destructive thoughts and find peace. We also unpack why healing requires more than religion alone—and how the many paths to God form a richer, more connected humanity.Welcome to [REMOTE] episode twenty-four. | 8/15/25 | ![]() #14 – Jeff Harmer – Peaks, Seas, & Startups | Jeff Harmer is a true walking legend — someone who’s lived life to the fullest. Adventure and entrepreneurship have been the two driving forces throughout his journey. Early on, Jeff took on the ambitious 7 Summit Challenge, aiming to climb the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents.Inspired by The Art of the Deal in his youth, Jeff dreamed of building skyscrapers. From delivering newspapers to launching multiple startups in his early twenties — including a furniture store and an excavation company — he quickly learned that working in dirt wasn’t getting him close enough to his dream.Determined to level up, Jeff earned a spot at UPenn’s Wharton School of Business. That opened the door to a commercial real estate firm, where he played a key role in developing million- and billion-dollar skyscrapers in Seattle — living out his childhood vision.More recently, Jeff extended a sabbatical during COVID that turned into an early retirement. He chose to forgo his highest-earning years to focus on his health, wealth, and able-bodiedness—sailing & now switching to the Seven Seas challenge alongside his equally remarkable wife. Jeff knows no amount of money can ever buy back that time while he’s healthy and able.I could’ve talked to Jeff forever.
