Jimmy also gives us a full wrap up of what's going on around other NT courses including Darwin GC, The Gardens, Katherine, and Jabiru. It's been a rather tough wet season to say the least! The biggest news coming out these past couple of weeks has been Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club being announced as host of the 2027 men's Australian Open. I give you a full run down of what we know and what we're still yet to learn about this magnificent golf facility. There's also more news coming from Tasmania GC and Fairbairn GC in ACT is looking for help to keep their golf course land being taken away. I also took some time to visit the very impressive Lang Lang GC located outside Melbourne city, which really surprised me!Hope you enjoy this one in an effort to keep you up to date and also let you know about the ASTMA national turf conference in Melbourne and also the upcoming joint VGCSA & NSWGCSA Country Conference in August. You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Envu - Instagram & FacebookDint Golf Solutions - Instagram & FacebookHumpty Doo Golf ClubDarwin Golf ClubGardens Park Golf LinksKatherine Country ClubJabiru Golf ClubPeninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club (PK)OCM DesignAustralian OpenPresidents CupLang Lang Golf ClubTasmania Golf ClubVGCSA NSWGCSA Country ConferenceYarrawonga Mulwala Golf ResortHelp save Fairbairn Golf ClubMuriwai Golf Links | —

Check out their website to get a better understanding of their suite of services and outstanding portfolio of work at www.mcmahons.net.auFrom humble beginnings in Melbourne after finishing school, Michael Henderson found a desire in wanting to understand golf course architecture much more. He read all he could find and put himself on a path to earning an opportunity to work in this rather niche industry. From submitting design work to a golf course architecture competition, to working at Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Michael wanted in on the golf architecture world and nothing was going to stop him. He gained a couple of different opportunities over time working with a couple of well known firms, including shaping on site helping to build the well known and now famous Tara Iti in New Zealand.Fast forward to today and Michael is now a member of the Society of Australian Golf Course architects having completed his own work to redesign an amazing transformation of Mallacoota Golf Club after the devastating 2019 bushfires, along with recent work at Flinders Golf Club on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.Come along for the ride as we launch into Michael's background and career, along with some fun and interesting discussions around courses other than 18 holes. You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Holes in the GroundMichael Henderson SAGCA ProfileSociety of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA)The Lakes Golf ClubPennant Hills Golf ClubRoyal Lytham & St Annes Golf ClubSandhurst ClubNorth Berwick Golf ClubHokitika Golf ClubRoyal Melbourne Golf ClubTom DoakTony Cashmore Profile - Planet GolfTara Iti Golf Club13th BeachThe Dunes Golf LinksRenaissance GolfThe National Golf Club - Gunnamatta CourseConcord Golf Club7 Mile BeachClayton DeVries & Pont (CDP)Mallacoota Golf & Country ClubMallacoota's Story - The Victorian Bushfires RememberedCurlewis Golf ClubFlinders Golf ClubWollongong Golf ClubAlister MacKenzie SocietyBarwon Heads Golf ClubNewgreens ChatswoodMoore Park Golf CourseBarnbougle - Bougle RunKingston Heath Golf Club - The FurrowsLatrobe Golf Club - The IslandCommonwealth Golf ClubMetropolitan Golf ClubCrafter Mogford - Golf StrategiesEP.187 The Design Brief - Scott ChampionEP.78 Keeper of the Greens - John MannEP.130 Keeper of the Greens - Adam Lamb | —

| 3/23/26 | ![]() EP.176 Aussie Golf History - Kingston Heath Golf Club's 15th Hole | This is a new shortened version of Aussie Golf History in an effort to bring more interesting historical information that I come across in my regular searches through history. This segment I quote to you an article from 22nd April 1925 written by Royal Melbourne Golf Club Professional at the time, Arthur Le Fevre. Arthur gives his insight and opinion of the new design and playability of the new course of Kingston Heath Golf Club, in particular the possibility of shortening the 15th hole from a blind short par 4 to a par 3. A point of note is that this observation and idea was some 18 months before Dr Alister MacKenzie graced the shores of Australia and completed a bunkering scheme for Kingston Heath and is credited with creating the par 3, 15th hole we see today. You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Kingston Heath Golf Club1925 newspaper article quoted in this podcast episodeRoyal Melbourne Golf ClubArthur Le Fevre - WikiDan Soutar - WikiManly Golf Club | — | ||||||

My chat with Tom is soon after he and his team prepared the course for the NZ PGA and what a wonderful example of a tournament golf course it was.Tom comes from humble beginnings growing up in the Lower Hutt region of Wellington. It was here that he decided greenkeeping was what he wanted to do and left school early, to the surprise of his school mates, to begin his career. Learning his early craft at a parkland course, it was upon completion of his apprenticeship that soon would see him take the opportunity to begin his employment as a qualified greenkeeper at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club to the north of Wellington working under and being mentored by one of the best superintendents in this part of the world!I'm not gong to give anymore away of this awesome chat with Tom other than to say his meteoric rise to becoming superintendent of a highly regarded golf club in New Zealand is far from by chance or accident, so dive in with us as we go through Tom's career and learn some insight about Paraparaumu Beach GC along the way.You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Paraparaumu Beach Golf ClubWaitara Golf ClubShandon Golf ClubLeo Barber - InstagramNZ PGA ChampionshipNZ OpenAlex Russell - WikiDiscovering Alex Russell - BookEP156 Keeper of the Greens - John Spraggs | —
