| 10/12/26 | The Communication Extravaganza Returns: Toronto, December 5th | Your practice members don't leave because your adjusting isn't good enough. They leave because of the little things nobody noticed. In this episode, Dr. Don MacDonald talks about trend lines: the health trend lines and behavior trend lines that tell you when a practice member is drifting off course. Catch it early and a simple conversation repairs it. Miss it and those micro ruptures accumulate until someone ghosts you. You'll hear why rupture and repair is the hidden engine of every strong practice relationship, what the "rapport bank" is and why a full one gives you leeway when things get bumpy, why your chiropractic assistants should be your best noticers, and how incidental learnings teach better than any script. This is a preview of what Don and Brandi will be teaching at the Communication Extravaganza in Toronto on December 5, 2026. Bring your team. Details at https://theinformedchiropractor.com/toronto Also mentioned: the Communication Extravaganza on the Gold Coast February 27, 2027, the pelvic floor protocol seminar in Perth February 20, 2027, and Don and Brandi's book The Polyvagal Shift, coming January 2027. | 9/3/26 | Pelvic Floor Chiropractic, Tailbone dysfunction and Nervous-System Regulation with Dr. Lauren Rose | What happens when chiropractors look beyond the spine and begin paying closer attention to the pelvis, pelvic floor, fascia and nervous system? In this episode of The Informed Chiropractor Podcast, Dr. Don MacDonald sits down with Dr. Lauren Rose, a chiropractor from Okotoks, Alberta, to talk about her journey into chiropractic and how learning a nervous-system-focused approach to the pelvis and pelvic floor has changed the way she works with her practice members. Dr. Lauren shares how her interest in chiropractic began after discovering the philosophy of chiropractic while studying kinesiology, eventually leading her to the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. After returning to Canada and beginning practice in 2020, she developed her clinical experience while working as an associate and learning from experienced chiropractors. The conversation then turns toward one of the areas that has become increasingly important in her practice: pelvic floor chiropractic care. After attending Dr. Don's pelvic floor seminar in Calgary, Dr. Lauren began applying the approach with patients experiencing a variety of pelvic, hip, fascial and tailbone-related challenges. She explains why she was initially hesitant to add another technique to her practice and what surprised her about the way the pelvic floor approach could fit within a chiropractic framework. Dr. Lauren and Dr. Don also discuss the relationship between the pelvic floor, fascia, movement and the nervous system, and why the goal is not simply to add more techniques, but to understand how the body responds to the input being provided. Throughout the conversation, Dr. Lauren shares several clinical experiences involving tailbone discomfort, pelvic floor challenges, sciatica, hip function and changes in movement following pelvic floor work. These stories highlight how much there is still to learn when chiropractors become curious about the relationships between different regions of the body. The episode also returns repeatedly to an important theme of Polyvagal Theory and nervous-system regulation: the state of the practitioner matters too. Dr. Don and Dr. Lauren discuss the importance of co-regulation and why chiropractors should pay attention to their own state before entering the adjusting room. In this episode: Dr. Lauren Rose's journey from kinesiology into chiropractic How the New Zealand College of Chiropractic influenced her approach to practice Why mentorship and the right practice environment can shape a chiropractor's career How Dr. Lauren became interested in pelvic floor chiropractic care Why tailbone and pelvic floor challenges encouraged her to expand her clinical approach How pelvic floor work can be integrated through a chiropractic lens The relationship between the pelvis, fascia, movement and nervous-system regulation Why some patients may respond differently depending on the condition of their tissues and their ability to adapt Clinical experiences involving tailbone discomfort and pelvic floor-related challenges How Dr. Lauren describes using pelvic floor work with male patients experiencing tailbone challenges What Dr. Lauren learned from attending Dr. Don's pelvic floor seminar in Calgary Why listening to the patient's body can be more valuable than simply explaining symptoms The importance of co-regulation in chiropractic practice Why a chiropractor's own nervous-system state can influence the clinical environment How Dr. Lauren approaches self-care, exercise and maintaining a positive state before practice Why continuing education can change the way chiropractors see their patients Key Takeaway One of the biggest themes from this conversation is that chiropractic care continues to evolve as practitioners become more curious about how the spine, pelvis, fascia, and nervous system interact. For Dr. Lauren, learning more about the pelvic floor did not mean abandoning the chiropractic approach she already valued. Instead, it gave her another way to | 27m 57s | ||||||

| 7/3/25 | The Safety Sandwich: A Polyvagal Approach to Chiropractic Adjusting | In this episode, Dr. Don MacDonald explores one of the most important concepts in modern chiropractic care: creating safety before, during, and after an adjustment. Drawing from Polyvagal Theory, the MacDonald Safety Corridor Protocol, and years of clinical experience, Dr. Don explains why patient outcomes are influenced by far more than technique alone. He introduces the concept of the Safety Sandwich—a practical framework that helps chiropractors improve adjustment readiness, support nervous system regulation, and create conditions where healing can occur more effectively. Whether you're a chiropractor interested in Polyvagal Theory, nervous system regulation, or improving patient communication, this episode offers practical insights you can use immediately in practice. Read the companion article: 👉 https://drdonmacdonald.com/safety-sandwich-polyvagal-chiropractic-adjusting/ In This Episode Why chiropractic adjustments are influenced by nervous system state How co-regulation shapes patient experience and outcomes The connection between Polyvagal Theory and chiropractic care Why some patients struggle to receive care despite good technique How the "Safety Sandwich" improves adjustment readiness The difference between safety and comfort Why chiropractors may become the first safe relationship a patient experiences How practitioner presence, tone, and pacing affect healing Lessons learned from the MacDonald Safety Corridor seminars Why regulated chiropractors often achieve better clinical outcomes Key Takeaway The body does not simply respond to what you do—it responds to how you do it. | 4/24/25 | Polyvagal Inspired Pediatric Chiropractic and the Art of Visceral Work || Dr. Kate Finlayson. | Dr. Don MacDonald hosts Dr. Kate Finlayson on this episode of The Informed Chiropractor podcast, where she discusses her journey in chiropractic care with a focus on pediatric practice. Dr. Kate shares how she transitioned from nursing to chiropractic after discovering the profession through YouTube videos and osteopathic treatments. She graduated from Macquarie University in Sydney and began working in Gladstone, Queensland, a coastal town she describes as ideal for her love of nature and smaller communities. Starting her career during COVID-19 posed challenges, including border closures, but she adapted quickly. Mentored by Ally, a seasoned pediatric chiropractor, Dr. Kate embraced pediatric care, noting how adjusting infants leads to faster, life-changing results compared to adults. She completed a pediatric diploma to deepen her expertise, emphasizing early intervention’s role in shaping health trajectories. When Ally moved back to Perth, Dr. Kate took over the practice, managing a surge in patients and expanding services to a nearby town. The workload initially led to burnout, but attending a polyvagal theory seminar helped her recognize stress patterns and prioritize self-care through Pilates, dog walks, and breathwork. She also incorporates principles from the MacDonald Safety Corridor Protocol, like co-regulation and visceral techniques, into her adjustments to enhance patient outcomes. They closed the episode discussing plans to reconnect at an upcoming seminar in Sydney this June, underscoring the value of continuous learning and community in advancing chiropractic care. | 4/10/25 | When Chiropractic Care Goes Beyond Humans: Healing Horses, Dogs, and Communities || Dr. Emir Lervy | On today’s episode of the Informed Chiropractor podcast hosted by Dr. Don Macdonald, Dr. Emir Lervy, a chiropractor from Northern Ireland, shares her journey from growing up in a family deeply rooted in holistic health to establishing her practice in 2008. Inspired by her mother’s recovery from sciatica and her brother’s improved sleep through chiropractic care, she pursued studies at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic. Initially trained in a mechanistic approach, she transitioned to a vitalistic philosophy after rediscovering foundational texts like the “Green Books” and attending seminars emphasizing nervous system resilience. Her practice now blends human care with animal chiropractic, where she adjusts dogs and horses, observing their instinctive post-adjustment responses like yawning and relaxation. Dr. Emir’s work extends beyond her clinic through community initiatives, such as monthly visits to a local school to adjust teachers. She integrates polyvagal theory to help patients recognize stress signals such as tense shoulders, irritability and teaches techniques like diaphragmatic breathing to build resilience. Emphasizing the importance of presence, she balances clinical work with outdoor activities and mindfulness, advocating for small, daily practices to counteract being overwhelmed. For new chiropractors, she advises confidence, trusting one’s skills, and avoiding perfectionism, urging practitioners to prioritize patient connection over rigid protocols. | 4/1/25 | The Vision of the ASRF for the Chiropractic Research Revolution || Dr. Ryan Seaman | In this interview with Dr. Ryan Seaman, hosted by Dr. Don Macdonald, he shared his journey from practicing a pain-based model to achieving significant growth in transitioning to a subluxation-based model in Loxton, South Australia. Dr. Ryan purchased a retiring chiropractor’s practice. However, the clinic’s symptom-centered model clashed with his philosophy. He recalls feeling physically ill during patient consultations, which centered on pain complaints. After abandoning this approach and adopting his neurologically focused model, his practice flourished, increasing patient numbers from 35 to 210 in three weeks. He discussed his transition from civil engineering to chiropractic, influenced by mentors like Craig Foote. Dr. Ryan Seaman highlighted the Australia Spinal Research Foundation's efforts, including funding three major studies this year, a systematic review on X-ray use, and a pediatric research fund. This interview with Dr. Ryan Seaman reflects the transformative potential of passion and perseverance. Through the ASRF, he champions a future where chiropractic care is recognized not only for pain relief but for its profound impact on overall health. Listeners are urged to support this mission through donations, memberships, or by contributing case studies to advance the field.
