| 6/19/25 | ![]() Buzzcocks - Episode 26 - Interview with Steve Diggle | Episode 26 features another one of our specials featuring an interview with Steve Diggle of Buzzcocks. for the few that perhaps aren't familiar, Buzzcocks are an English punk rock band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Pete Shelley and singer-songwriter Howard Devoto formed in Manchester in 1976. Devoto left the band in 1977 and formed Magazine. The classic lineup of Shelley, Steve Diggle (guitar), Steve Garvey (bass) and John Maher (drums) recorded Buzzcocks' first three albums, after which the band broke up in 1981. The band reunited in 1989 and released six more albums before Shelley's death in 2018 – Aged 63. The band has remained active, being anchored by long-time guitarist Diggle, who has since also assumed lead vocal and songwriting duties. The band made 2 albums, a self titled debut and a second album Night on Earth. | 4/24/25 | ![]() Ooberman - Episode 24 - Interview with Dan Popplewell & Sophia Churney | The latest episode (no 24) of the Uncharted Sounds podcast features a band you may not have heard of but may have heard their music, a true uncharted experience this one, its the band Ooberman.Ooberman were formed in 1997 with an eclectic mix of sounds from bright & punchy to slower and softer described as “psychedelic folk prog pop”. They impressed Blur guitarist Graham Coxon who released their first single of his own label. And with a major label got a top 40 hit single. The band were initially Danny Popplewell – vocals, guitar, piano & violin, Andy Flett – guitar and backing vocals, Steve Flett – bass, Sophia Churney – keyboards and vocals, Alan Kelly – drums. Their biggest success single wise was Blossoms Falling which reached no 39 in the UK singles charts. As always their story has many twists and turns and is a genuinely fascinating story right through to what they are doing now and theres a sneak preview of that on the episode. And they were very underrated in our opinion and are the epiotomy of our uncharted mission to bring the stories of bands that you may not have heard of to our listeners attention ! The band were together from 1996-2003 and were given the title of NME's next big thing alongside Coldplay on the cover of the NME.The lead singer and main songwriter Alex Troup went on to live in Los Angeles and started a new band called Troup with more of great songwriting.We will be putting a spotlight on this music and talking to Alex about Crashland and Troup Later in the podcast. | 12/11/24 | ![]() The Skids - Episode 20 - Interview With Richard Jobson | This episode features the Skids. The Skids were formed in the summer of 1977 in Dunfermline in Scotland and would go on to make two albums and seven singles before the end of 1979. Their most successful year was 1979 where they spent over half the year in the singles charts including their biggest song, the top 10 hit Into The Valley. You may also know their song The Saints Are Coming which was covered by U2 and Green Day.Whilst they split in 1982 but reformed for a couple of years in 2008 and again in 2016 where they now still tour and have had more albums of new music, Burning Cities and Destination Dusseldorf, along with an Acoustic album reworking some of their songs.This episode covers the entire history of the band, their music and their stories. Richard Jobson is interviewed (starts about 25 mins in but don't miss the bio of the band because it covers all their great songs, and a few you may not know !). He is very open and entertaining and there's plenty of anecdotes about the early punk years and his interactions with everyone around that time. You may know a few of the hits but his story goes much deeper than that and he covers the full history of the band including the tragic death of Stuart Adamson (The Skids Guitarist), how US & green day came to cover The Saints Are Coming, what he thinks of their catalogue, whats happening now, the personnel changes and everything else in between. Its an episode that is a fitting end to our Season 1. Season 2 starts again in the new year where we are starting to cover bands for the 90's so the Uncharted 90's ! | 11/20/24 | ![]() That Petrol Emotion - Episode 19 - Interview with Raymond Gormon | That Petrol Emotion were a Northern Irish & London-based band with a North American vocalist, Steve Mack. The band is the epiotome of what the Uncharted 80's podcast is all about, a band with a great story, great tunes and so very nearly made it. Initially featuring two former members of punk band The Undertones, the brothers John O'Neill (until 1988) and Damian O'Neill, Following the split of the Undertones, John O'Neill (the band's former guitarist and principal songwriter) returned to his hometown of Derry and teamed up with friend and fellow guitarist Raymond Gorman (ex-Bam Bam And The Calling) DJing together at Derry's 'Left Bank' club. This episode interviews Raymond Gormon who tells us all about their story.They recorded five albums between 1985 and 1993. | 10/28/24 | ![]() The Passions - Episode 18 - Interview With David (Agar) Wardill | The Passions were a British-Irish post-punk/new wave band which formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1983. The Passions' music had Barbara Gogan's voice and Clive Timperley's guitar work. Their major chart hit, "I'm in Love with a German Film Star", was released as the band's fourth single on 23 January 1981The lyrics were written by Gogan about Steve Connelly, a one-time roadie for The Clash and Sex Pistols who had minor roles in several German films.Todays Episode is an Interview with David Agar (Wardill) who played Bass in the band from 1980 - 1983 and tells us the real story behind the single, how the band got its name, how he was a part of Spandau Ballet (Not that one !) but his story about their name is a revelation. He also tells the story of the albums he made with them and how having a hit single impacted the band positively and negatively. Its ultimatley another story where the record company didnt have enough faith in the ban despite them selling 250,000 copies of their single in 3 days !. The Band worked with Producers Pete Wilson (The Jam), Nigel Gray (The Police) and Mick Glossop (The Skids). There are also stories of the 101'ers (Joe Strummers band before the Clash) and many others. He has recently been photographing bands such as the Molotovs, the Strypes and the Rifles. All of this is covered on the podcast episode and he's worth a listen. Paul Simmonds, Philip 'Swill' Odgers and his brother Jon, veterans of the Southampton-based pop-punk band Catch 22, met Pogues roadie Stefan Cush whilst busking in Shepherds Bush in London. Their recordings have been acclaimed in print, on radio and online; from their definitive version of the anti war classic Green Fields of France to the anti fascist anthem Ghosts of Cable Street and the epic historical ballads, Ironmasters and The Colours. They are currently in the middle of their 40th anniversary tour and a Vol 1 & 2 Best of record is currently on release.
