| 7/15/26 | What is PlayStation Actually Doing Right This Generation? - Beyond 953 | Join the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 Is Sony losing its way? This week on Beyond, we try to look at the bright side of the current state of PlayStation, which isn’t exactly easy in light of past few years. From the recently announced plans to kill physical discs to the live-service initiative and the Bungie acquisition to the constantly rising price of hardware amidst a drought of first-party exclusives, there’s a lot to be negative about… but it’s not all bad. We discuss what’s working and what’s definitely not. Plus, we weigh in on Denshattack!, which is like Jet Grind meets Tony Hawk, but with Japanese trains. It’s the kind of weird stuff Sony used to bring us all the time, which is in short supply these days. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is gorgeous and well made, but not everything we’d hoped for. Plus, we take a look ahead to the PlayStation 6 and reveal what YOU think is the biggest factor in buying a PS6 based on our recent poll results! | 7/8/26 | Sony Killing Physical Games is Killing Our PS6 Hype - Beyond 952 | Join the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 It’s been another rough week for the games industry. Most recently, Xbox’s ruthless “restructuring” has left thousands jobless, and shortly before that, Sony announced plans to discontinue the manufacturing of physical PlayStation games starting in 2028, which will likely eliminate more jobs in the long-term, and doesn’t exactly give us hope for what’s planned for PlayStation 6. This console generation kicked off in the middle of a pandemic and the countless issues that caused. Sony made a multi-billion dollar push into the live-service space, which has since backfired, meanwhile, chip shortages due to the AI boom have made gaming more expensive than ever. Now, on top of all that, Sony’s plans to go all-digital are making the walls of its walled garden even higher than ever. So, pardon us if it’s a little hard to get excited about next-gen. Beyond! | 7/1/26 | GTA 6 Is Already Outselling Everything Else - Beyond 951 | Join the IGN Discord https://discord.gg/h2T45nkkm6 This week on Beyond! Jada Griffin is hosting again and like GTA 6 she is getting away with whatever she wants! She’s joined by Brian Altano and Nick Maillet to discuss all the most recent GTA 6 news concerning whether Playstation is the best place to play it, the potential shortage of consoles ahead of GTA 6’s launch and how GTA 6 is outselling basically everything else already according to early reports on digital storefronts. We then talk about how the PS6 might go Beyond (heh) the living room and what we speculate a hybrid PlayStation might look like. Nick hosts an interview for the cool looking train racing tony hawk hybrid game Denshattack with its developers, before we sprinkle in a few details regarding updates for Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and Street Fighter 6 from the most recent Capcom Spotlight. Finally we share what game’s we’ve all been playing recently like Mina the Hollower, Tetris Effect, and Abyssus. | 6/24/26 | Everyone’s Celebrating Big Anniversaries Except Sony, What Gives? - Beyond 950 | It feels like everyone’s celebrating milestone anniversaries… except Sony. The original PlayStation turned 30 two years ago, the PS2 hit 25, and the PS3 is now 20, and all of these brought with them some iconic game franchises. Aside from limited edition consoles and themes, Sony seems to be sitting on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is going all-in: Resident Evil and Tomb Raider are celebrating 30 years with massive remakes, and Nintendo, Xbox, and SEGA are dusting off their biggest classics for modern audiences. In other news, we’re diving into the massive wave of recent game announcements that actually did get us excited. We’re talking Kingdom Hearts IV, GenATLAS, Mobile Suit Gundam: Rogue Orbit, Resident Evil Veronica, Rayman Legends Retold, and the two Star Wars titles we’ve been waiting years for: Zero Company and Galactic Racer. | 2/11/26 | Horizon Hunters Gathering Gives a Realistic Open-World Game a Cartoony Multiplayer Spin - Beyond 933 | After months of rumors, Horizon Hunters Gathering has finally been revealed: a cooperative multiplayer game set in the same universe as Aloy’s adventures, but not to be confused with the free-to-play Horizon Steel Frontiers. Hunters Gathering has a bold, cartoony art style that breaks away from the usual realism of the non-LEGO games, but we can’t help but feel like between these games, plus Zero Dawn, Forbidden West, and Call of the Mountain, Sony’s really putting a lot of focus on this particular series, despite having a deep bench of long-dormant properties. In other news, there’s a State of Play happening tomorrow at 2PM Pacific, and we’ll have a lot more to discuss after that, but in the meantime, Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties seemed like it should’ve been a home run, but it has the Like a Dragon fanbase very angry for a long list of reasons. | 2/4/26 | We Don’t Need PlayStation 6 Yet, We Have PS5 At Home - IGN Beyond 932 | The PlayStation 5 will have been out for six years this fall, which is usually when console manufacturers start looking ahead to next-gen hardware. But that might not be the case for Sony anytime soon, as one industry analyst claims a variety of factors will see the PlayStation 6’s launch pushed to 2029 or later. We have mixed feelings about this, but ultimately, we don’t really feel like the PS5 has hit its stride quite yet, and while it’s a great machine, there are plenty of players still able to play some of the most popular games on PS4. So, maybe the solution on the hardware front isn’t a new generation of powerful hardware, but some different iterations of current gen that take into account how people are playing. After all, 7% of PS5 owners in the US also picked up a PlayStation Portal, which suggests they’d be willing to sacrifice fidelity and screen real estate for a more intimate gaming experience. In other news, a new set of PlayStation accessories for Figma action figures includes a 1:12 scale replica of Bloodborne, and yet more evidence emerges that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is getting a remake any day now, and it’s such an open secret, even Ubisoft is making jokes about it. | 1/28/26 | Forza Horizon 6 Is Our Most Anticipated Xbox Game of 2026 (That’s Coming To PS5) - Beyond 931 | Last week, Xbox held a Developer Direct showing off four-awesome looking games that are also coming to PlayStation: Forza Horizon 6, Fable, Kiln and Beast of Reincarnation. Considering Forza Horizon 5 was one of the best-selling PS5 games of 2025, it's safe to assume that we aren’t the only ones excited about the next open-world arcade racer, and we’re just as excited that this new cross-platform approach means we can talk about it on this show! In other news, Highguard’s weird reveal at The Game Awards and somehow even weirder launch have us reflecting on just how much the live-service game landscape has changed, and how games that launch to a mediocre or negative reception often turn themselves around, which makes them something of a moving target for criticism. Beyond! 00:00 - Intro 02:19 - PlayStation's Top Selling Games of 2025 13:40 - Forza Horizon 6 Is Our Most Anticipated Xbox Game of 2026 Coming to PS5 28:57 - Every Other Xbox Game Headed to PlayStation This Year 38:35 - Is Highguard Another Concord or The Next Apex Legends? 56:34 - Cory In The House This weeks show is hosted by Max Scoville and Brian Altano, and is produced by Nick Maillet Learn more about your ad choices. | 1/21/26 | Resident Evil Requiem Marks 30 Years of These Games Scaring The Heck Out of Us - Beyond 930 | Our Resident Evil Requiem hype has reached critical mass, and while it remains to be seen if this ninth mainline entry can deliver on its ambitious promise, Capcom’s been making these games for three decades. This episode, we take a look back at the many variations on the survival-horror formula that’ve been attempted over the years, from the PS1 era’s tank-controlled classics, to the ill-fated action-centric efforts to one-up Resident Evil 4, to the various offshoots like Code Veronica, Outbreak and Revelations. Meanwhile, we got a look at Lara Croft’s manga-style redesign that she nearly got for the first game’s Japanese release, and our first glimpse of Sophie Turner in costume for the upcoming Prime Video series. The latest live-action Tomb Raider is hot on the heels of Fallout season 2, and Amazon’s still hammering away at the God of War series, with Ryan Hurst cast as Kratos, but these are just a couple entries on the very, very long list of video game movies and TV shows that are (or were) in some state of development. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter and Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie all seem like they’ll see the light of day, but some of these other ones have us a little skeptical. 00:00 - Intro 00:38 - A Manga Tomb Raider? 04:29 - 30 Years of Resident Evil 01:03:36 - There Are 80+ Video Game Movies & Shows In The Works… This weeks show is hosted by Max Scoville and Brian Altano and was produced by Nick Maillet #PlayStation #ResidentEvil #GodOfWarTVShow Learn more about your ad choices. | 1/14/26 | Ghost of Yotei Beer, Death Stranding Hot Sauce & More Weird Gaming Collabs You Can Eat - Beyond 929 | Hey, remember when consumer electronics giant Sony used to bring consumer electronics electronics to the annual Consumer Electronics Show? Well, this year, Sony’s showing was basically just Sony Honda Mobility’s upcoming EV, the Afeela. Which is technically an electronic thing you can consume, and also something you can use to play video games, as long as you’ve got a PS5 plugged in at home… but it’s a bit of a let down compared to previous years. On the bright (literally) side, some cool new PS5 plates and controllers are coming in very loud colors, including one particular shade usually reserved for Xbox gear. There are rumors that CD Projekt Red has plans for a third expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sometime in the near future to help pave the way for The Witcher IV, which makes sense when you consider how many copies the last game has sold since 2015. We mutter softly to ourselves about some other games that could learn a thing or two from this hypothetical approach, like Bethesda’s big winners, Skyrim and Fallout 4, plus Persona 5 and maybe Star Wars Battlefront 2. Old games deserve love too, could this hold us over when the new ones take so long to make? In the meantime, we always have exciting crossovers between our favorite video games and popular consumer brands, like Ghost of Yotei and Sapporo beer, or Borderlands 4-branded Voodoo Ranger IPAs. The Last of Us mushroom coffee might be a little too on the nose, and Death Stranding 2 hot sauce might not be for the faint of heart, but it’s still a nice diversion from boring food and drink products that don’t have pictures of video games on them.
