Best UK News Podcasts 2026: Top 20 Ranked by Data

Best UK News Podcasts 2026: Ranked by Real Chart Data

Updated October 2026 · Based on CastFox data covering 24 Apple Podcasts chart snapshots in 78 countries (2026-02-24 to 2026-09-25) and 5M+ indexed podcasts

Search for the best news podcasts in the UK and you mostly get the same handful of titles recycled from other lists. This one comes from the chart. CastFox scrapes the Apple Podcasts charts every day in 78 countries, and the 20 shows below are the ones that held the top of the UK News chart across 24 separate snapshots between February 24 and September 25, 2026, scored on how consistently they charted, how high they averaged, and how many countries they reach.

Two things stand out in the data. First, the UK news chart is really a politics chart: every show in the top five is either a politics show or a daily news briefing, and four of the 20 are about American politics rather than British. Second, it is a chart of publishers and production houses rather than independents. Goalhanger has three shows on this list, the BBC has three, and The Telegraph, The Times, The Economist and Global have two each. The only two shows here that are not attached to a broadcaster, a newspaper or a major audio producer are TRIGGERnometry and Pod Save America. The category has settled into five recognizable shapes: daily briefings, Westminster politics, US politics made for British listeners, global affairs and war reporting, and long interview or comment shows.

Each card below shows the real cover art, the host, what the show is, why it earned its place in 2026, and who it is best for, plus the chart numbers behind the ranking: how many of the 24 UK chart snapshots it appeared in, its average UK rank, its best rank, and how many countries it charted in on the most recent scrape. Click through to CastFox for the full profile with audience estimates, chart history in every country, reviews and contact details. You can monitor any of these shows in CastFox as their rankings move.

Why it made the list in 2026: It charted in as many countries as any other show on this list, which is what you would expect from the World Service and still worth saying out loud: it is the most international news podcast British listeners are playing. Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 11.6, best #8, charting in 77 countries on the latest scrape.

Best fit for: Listeners who want world news rather than UK politics, in a short and predictable daily slot.

Why it made the list in 2026: It holds a UK top-ten average while staying a single-story show, which is unusual: most of the shows at that height in the chart are headline briefings rather than reported features. Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 6.1, best #4, charting in 69 countries on the latest scrape.

Best fit for: Listeners who would rather understand one story properly than hear ten headlines.

Why it made the list in 2026: It is an American show that has become a fixture of the British chart, and it reaches more countries than almost anything else in the category. The format it popularized is the one most of this list now copies. Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 14.5, best #9, charting in 77 countries on the latest scrape.

Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 11.7, best #8, charting in 71 countries on the latest scrape.

Best fit for: Listeners who need the business and markets agenda before the first meeting of the day.

Why it made the list in 2026: It is the rare daily show that charts both broadly and consistently, and the weekend edition gives the feed a second shape without breaking the habit of the weekday brief. Best fit for: Listeners who want a short, calm daily brief with a long read at the weekend.

Why it made the list in 2026: It is the most consistent show in the UK News chart this year and the only one that averaged a position at the very top of it, while also reaching an audience far outside Britain. Nothing else in the category matches it on both measures at once. Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 1.4, best #1, charting in 71 countries on the latest scrape.

Why it made the list in 2026: It averaged one of the two highest UK ranks in the category this year, which makes it the strongest purely domestic performer on this list, and it sits lower here only because its audience is concentrated in Britain. Chart record: 24 of 24 UK snapshots, average UK rank 1.9, best #1, charting in 38 countries on the latest scrape.

Best fit for: Listeners who want the day's politics taken apart in the afternoon with some scepticism and some humor.

How We Ranked These: CastFox Methodology

CastFox scrapes the Apple Podcasts charts every day in 78 countries and stores every position in the top 200 of every genre. For this list we took the 24 2026 snapshots of the UK UK News chart between 2026-02-24 and 2026-09-25, and scored every show that appeared in the top 100 of any of them.

  • Consistency (50% of the score): the number of snapshots in which the show appeared in the UK top 100. Every show on this list scored 24 out of 24, which is the filter that removes one-week spikes.
  • Average UK rank (30%): the mean of the show's UK chart positions across those snapshots. Lower is better.
  • Global reach (20%): the number of tracked countries in which the show was in the genre top 100 on the most recent snapshot. This is what separates a show with a large UK following from a show with a global one.

There are no paid placements and no editorial overrides. A few shows on this list would not be our personal picks; they are here because the chart data put them here, and we would rather show you what people are actually listening to than what we think they should be. Chart position is not the same as audience size, so treat the ranking as a measure of sustained popularity rather than a download count. For a deeper look at what chart data can and cannot tell you, read how podcast audience demographics are calculated.

How to Pick the Right UK News Podcast for You

You want the best British news podcasts rather than imports

The most British shows on this list are The Rest Is Politics, The News Agents, Newscast, The Daily T and Off Air with Jane & Fi. The country count on each card is the quickest way to tell: Newscast, The Daily T, The Story and Political Currency all hold a high UK average while charting in fewer than 30 countries, which means almost their whole audience is domestic.

You want the best daily news podcasts UK listeners play every morning

Pick by length and by where the reporting comes from. Global News Podcast from the BBC World Service is the broadest and publishes twice a day on weekdays, FT News Briefing is the shortest route to the business stories that will move the day, and The Intelligence from The Economist gives you three stories a day with the magazine's correspondents behind them. Today in Focus and The Story go the other way and spend the whole episode on one story. Our daily news podcast list compares the format globally.

You want the best UK politics and current affairs podcasts

Start with The Rest Is Politics, which averaged the highest UK rank of anything in the category this year, then The News Agents for the afternoon take on the same stories and Newscast for the BBC newsroom version. The Daily T and Political Currency round out the Westminster shelf. See also our politics podcast list.

You want the top news podcasts on Apple Podcasts UK right now

The summary table above is ordered by our consistency score, not by today's chart. If you want the shows sitting highest in the UK chart on the latest scrape, look at the latest rank and average rank columns: The Rest Is Politics, The News Agents, The Rest Is Politics: US and Newscast are the four that live in the UK top five. The live top 50 updates daily on our UK chart page.

You want the best UK news podcasts for commuting

For a short commute, the briefings are built for it: The Daily runs about twenty minutes by its own description, and FT News Briefing and The Intelligence from The Economist are designed to be finished before you arrive. For a longer drive or train, The Rest Is Politics, The Rest Is Politics: Leading and TRIGGERnometry run long enough to fill it.

You want global affairs and war reporting rather than Westminster

Economist Podcasts is the widest-reaching show on this list after the BBC and the New York Times, and Ukraine: The Latest from The Telegraph is the only show here devoted to a single war. Global News Podcast sits between the two and charted in as many countries as anything else in the category.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Best UK News Podcasts

What is the best UK news podcast in 2026?

By CastFox's chart-consistency score, The Rest Is Politics is the best UK news podcast of 2026. Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart's show appeared in all 24 UK News chart snapshots between February and September at an average rank of 1.4, with a best rank of 1, and it charted in 71 of the 78 countries CastFox tracks. The BBC World Service's Global News Podcast and The Guardian's Today in Focus come second and third.

How is this list ranked?

Each show's score combines three things from CastFox's daily Apple Podcasts chart data: how many of the 24 UK News chart snapshots it appeared in the top 100 of (50% of the score), its average UK rank across those appearances (30%), and how many of the 78 tracked countries it charted in on the latest scrape (20%). That is why The News Agents, with an average UK rank of 1.9, sits below shows with a worse UK average but far wider international reach. There are no paid placements and no editorial overrides.

Why do American podcasts appear on a list of UK news podcasts?

Because British listeners play them. Four of the 20 shows here are about US politics, including The Rest Is Politics: US, Americast, Pod Save America and The News Agents - USA, and two of the biggest daily briefings in the UK chart are The Daily from The New York Times and Economist Podcasts. We rank what UK listeners actually chart rather than filtering by where a show is produced, and each card shows the country count so you can tell a domestic show from a global one.

Which UK news podcasts publish every weekday?

Most of this list does. Global News Podcast publishes twice a day on weekdays and daily at weekends, The Daily is six days a week, FT News Briefing and The Intelligence from The Economist are every weekday, Ukraine: The Latest is every weekday, The News Agents lands every weekday afternoon, and The Story publishes seven days a week. CastFox records about two new episodes a week for The Rest Is Politics, The Rest Is Politics: Leading and The News Agents - USA, and TRIGGERnometry publishes on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Are these UK news podcasts free to listen to?

Yes. Every show on this list publishes a free feed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and the other major apps. Several also sell a paid tier for bonus episodes, ad-free listening or early access, including The Rest Is Politics through its own membership and TRIGGERnometry through premium membership, but nothing on this list is paywalled in full.
