Podcast Advertising Cost by Country 2026: US, UK, CA, AU

Podcast Advertising Cost by Country in 2026: What You Pay in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia

Updated October 2026 · Based on CastFox data covering 28 daily Apple Podcasts chart snapshots in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia (2026-02-24 to 2026-10-13), 15,100 episode records and 8,799 detected host-read ad reads across business, comedy, and news.

Podcast advertising cost by country in 2026 runs from roughly $18 per thousand for a host-read mid-roll in Australia and Canada to $50 or more in the United States, with the UK in between. Those are typical market ranges, not CastFox statistics. What CastFox can measure directly is demand: across the top 40 business, comedy, and news shows on the Apple Podcasts charts in all four countries we scanned 15,100 episode records and detected 8,799 host-read ad reads, and the gap between the busiest market and the quietest is almost two to one.

That gap is the real story for a media buyer. Price follows competition for inventory, and competition is not evenly spread. Canada's chart carries ads at almost exactly the US rate because two thirds of its slots are filled by US shows that already sell US sponsorships. The UK and Australia charts are mostly domestic shows, carry far fewer detected ad reads, and are where a buyer still has room to negotiate.

This post gives the typical CPM range for each market, the measured sponsor demand behind it, which shows and sponsors are active in each country, and how much of each chart is local inventory rather than American shows you could have bought at home. For the genre-by-genre view of the same question, read Podcast Advertising CPM by Genre 2026.

Podcast CPM by Country: The Typical 2026 Ranges

CPM is the price of 1,000 downloads of the episode your ad runs in, and it is the only unit that lets you compare a London show selling in pounds with a Los Angeles show selling in dollars. The ranges below are typical 2026 market ranges for a single host-read placement before agency fees and before multi-episode discounts. They are industry ranges, not CastFox measurements: publishers in none of these four markets publish rate cards, and we do not see invoices.

MarketTypical host-read mid-roll CPM (industry range, USD)Typical programmatic CPM (industry range, USD)Typical flat fee per episode, small and mid-size showsUsually quoted in
United States$25 to $50, higher in finance and B2B technology$10 to $25$100 to $5,000USD
United Kingdom$20 to $40$8 to $20$120 to $3,500GBP
Canada$18 to $38$8 to $18$120 to $4,000CAD, USD for cross-border shows
Australia$18 to $35$8 to $18$120 to $3,500AUD

Two practical notes on using this table. First, exchange rates move and sellers quote in their own currency, so convert at the rate on the day and put the currency in the contract; a 7% swing on a six-month flight is larger than most volume discounts you will win. Second, the smaller the market, the more likely you are quoted a flat fee per episode rather than a CPM, because the download base is too small for CPM math to be meaningful. For a show doing 8,000 downloads an episode, the per-thousand price is a rounding error next to whether the audience is the right one.

What CastFox Measured: Sponsor Demand on Each Country's Chart

Price ranges tell you what the market asks. Sponsor demand tells you whether that ask will hold. For each of the four countries we took the 40 shows with the strongest Apple Podcasts chart record in business, comedy, and news between February 24 and October 13, 2026 (28 chart snapshots, 25 for the UK, where the latest snapshot in this window was October 3), then ran our sponsor detection over their recent episodes. Every number in the table below is CastFox data.

MarketChart slots covered (top 40 in 3 genres)Episode records scannedHost-read ad reads detectedAd reads per episodeShows carrying ads
Canada1203,3712,5700.7657 of 120
United States1204,1932,9560.7062 of 120
Australia1203,9461,7940.4556 of 120
United Kingdom1203,5901,4790.4150 of 120

The same pattern holds genre by genre, and the genre differences are larger than the country differences. Comedy is the most heavily sponsored category in three of the four markets; business is the thinnest in all four despite carrying the highest CPM.

Comedy0.970.421.080.71
News0.780.410.710.37

One more measure matters for negotiation: how many sponsors buy more than one show in the same genre and country. A market where dozens of brands run across multiple shows is a market where the seller has other bidders. Among the 60 most active sponsors in each genre, 57 ran on two or more US comedy shows and 60 on two or more US news shows, against 16 and 15 in the UK. Business is the exception that proves the rule: one sponsor in the US ran across two or more top business shows, against eight in Australia, where local finance brands buy the local shows as a set.

How Much Does Podcast Advertising Cost in the UK?

In 2026 a host-read mid-roll on a UK podcast typically costs $20 to $40 per thousand downloads, usually quoted in pounds, with news and business shows at the top of that band and comedy at the bottom. That is a typical market range. The CastFox measurement that should inform your offer is this: the UK chart in these three genres carried 1,479 detected ad reads across 3,590 episode records, 0.41 per episode, the lowest of the four markets, and only 50 of 120 chart slots were carrying any detected sponsor at all.

The UK is also the most domestic of the four charts. Only 25 of 120 slots were also held by a show in the US top 40, so a UK buy is mostly a buy of British inventory rather than American shows with a British audience. Among the shows outside the US top 40, 37 were already carrying ads, with 764 reads between them, which is where the sellable local inventory sits.

The most heavily sponsored UK-chart shows in our window were TRIGGERnometry (128 reads), The Rest Is Politics (82), My First Million (53), The News Agents (48), The Rest Is Money (43), Have A Word with Adam Rowe & Dan Nightingale (41), Fin vs History (39), and The Story (37). The sponsor names tell you who is competing for that inventory: HSBC UK, NordVPN, Fuse Energy, Vanta, Surfshark, Octopus Energy, Lloyds, and Hiscox all appeared repeatedly, and several of them, including HSBC UK, Octopus Energy, Lloyds, and Hiscox, did not appear in any of the US sponsor lists. If your category already has a UK incumbent on a show, expect the quote to reflect it.

Podcast Advertising Rates Canada

Canadian podcast advertising rates in 2026 typically run $18 to $38 per thousand for a host-read mid-roll, often quoted in Canadian dollars, and sometimes in US dollars when the show sells cross-border. Canada looks like the cheapest of the four markets on price and the most expensive on competition: its chart carried 2,570 detected ad reads across 3,371 episode records, 0.76 per episode, the highest of the four, with 57 of 120 slots carrying ads.

The reason is the composition of the chart, not Canadian demand. Of the 120 Canadian chart slots in these genres, 67 were also in the US top 40, including 30 of the top 40 comedy shows. Those shows arrive with their US sponsor load already attached, which is why the per-episode figure tracks the US so closely. Only 53 slots were not US top-40 shows, and 20 of those were carrying ads, with 765 reads between them.

Chart-leading Canadian-market shows in our window included Monday Morning Podcast (139 reads), The Canadian Real Estate Investor (44), and Bulwark Takes (54). The genuinely Canadian inventory is smaller than the chart suggests: only 29 of the 120 slots were shows charting in two or fewer countries, and just 9 of those carried detected ads. Sponsors appearing on the Canadian chart but in none of the US lists included BMO Global Asset Management, Neighbourhood Holdings, and Banque Nationale Courtage Direct, which is a short list by design. If you want a Canadian audience rather than a Canadian chart position, the practical route is a US show with strong Canadian reach plus two or three domestic shows, and you should price those two parts separately.

Podcast Advertising Cost Australia

Podcast advertising cost in Australia in 2026 typically runs $18 to $35 per thousand for a host-read mid-roll, quoted in Australian dollars, with flat fees common below about 20,000 downloads an episode. The Australian chart carried 1,794 detected ad reads across 3,946 episode records, 0.45 per episode, second lowest of the four markets, with 56 of 120 slots carrying ads.

Australia is the most local of the four charts on the measure that matters most to a buyer: 48 of its 120 slots were shows charting in two or fewer countries, four times the UK figure, and 19 of those were already carrying sponsors. Only 36 of 120 slots were also US top-40 shows. The shows outside the US top 40 accounted for 919 reads, the largest local pool of the three non-US markets.

The sponsor list shows a domestic market operating on its own terms. Alpha Blokes Podcast led the Australian comedy chart on sponsor volume with 146 reads from brands including Better Beer, Neds, SP Tools, and Portwest. In business, money money money (78 reads) carried Sphere Home Loans, Skye Wealth, CMC Invest, and Australian Retirement Trust; Australian Finance Podcast (26) and Get Rich Slow Club (24) both carried Pearler, and Betashares, VanEck, and PocketSmith appear across the same cluster. In news, Squiz Today (40 reads) carried CommBank. None of Pearler, Betashares, Skye Wealth, Sphere Home Loans, Aussie Broadband, or Better Beer appeared in any US sponsor list, so an Australian buy in finance or consumer goods is a competitive market with local incumbents and local pricing, not an afterthought on a US plan.

The US Benchmark: Highest Prices, Deepest Competition

The US is the reference price for the other three markets and the only one of the four where a single genre can have 60 different brands buying across multiple top-40 shows. Its chart carried 2,956 detected ad reads across 4,193 episode records, 0.70 per episode, with 62 of 120 slots carrying ads, the most of any market.

The heaviest sponsor loads in our US window were on Candace (198 reads), Financial Audit (128), Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald (124), This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von (123), Son of a Boy Dad (107), and The Joe Rogan Experience (74). The most active US sponsors across the three genres were American Financing, Quince, Shopify, PureTalk, BetterHelp, Helix Sleep, and Balance of Nature. Shopify, BetterHelp, NordVPN, and Chime were the brands we detected in all four markets, which is a useful signal: those four categories have proven that the same creative travels, and they are also the categories where you will be bidding against a deep-pocketed incumbent.

Business is the odd one out in the US, as it was in our genre study. The top 40 US business shows carried 362 reads across 1,147 episodes, 0.32 per episode, and exactly one of the 60 most active sponsors ran on two or more of them. Most top US business shows sell their own products instead of inventory, so a buyer who wants that audience pays a premium for the few shows that do sell.

Cheapest Countries to Advertise on Podcasts

On typical price alone, Australia and Canada are the cheapest of these four markets and the US is the most expensive. On price plus competition, which is what actually determines whether a quote moves, the ranking changes:

MarketTypical CPM bandAd reads per episode (CastFox)Sponsors on 2+ shows, comedy and news (CastFox)What that means for a buyer
United KingdomMiddle0.41, lowest16 and 15Best combination of moderate price and thin competition; most negotiating room, especially in comedy
AustraliaLowest0.4526 and 26Cheapest list prices and the largest pool of genuinely local shows; finance inventory is competitive, consumer less so
CanadaLow0.76, highest50 and 40Low list prices but the chart is two thirds US shows already carrying US sponsors; separate local shows from imports before negotiating
United StatesHighest0.7057 and 60Most inventory and most proof that ads work, at the highest price and with the most bidders

So the cheapest country to advertise on podcasts depends on which cheapness you mean. For the lowest invoice per thousand, Australia. For the lowest competition per show, the UK. For the largest number of shows that will take a small test budget at a flat fee, Australia again, because 48 of its 120 chart slots are shows that chart in two or fewer countries and are therefore unlikely to have a network rate card. And if your product only converts in the US, none of this matters; a cheap impression in the wrong country costs more than an expensive one in the right one.

One caveat on all four markets: a low ad-read count can mean cheap inventory or it can mean inventory that does not sell because the audience does not convert. Check whether the shows with no detected sponsors are new, small, or simply uninterested in advertising before you read a low number as a bargain.

Are You Buying a Country or Buying a US Show?

This is the question that decides most international podcast plans, and the chart answers it. Of the 120 top-40 slots in business, comedy, and news in each market, the number also held by a US top-40 show was 67 in Canada, 36 in Australia, and 25 in the UK. In Canadian comedy it was 30 of 40.

If your goal is reach in a market, buying the US shows that chart there is efficient and you should pay the US rate for it, since you are buying the same episode the US audience hears. If your goal is local credibility, a promo code that works in local currency, or a host whose audience will act on a local offer, those shows are the wrong buy at any price, and the inventory you want is the 95 UK slots, 84 Australian slots, or 53 Canadian slots that are not US shows. Pricing the two pools the same way is the most common mistake we see in cross-border plans.

A second check worth running before you sign: how many countries the show charts in. The UK chart's shows averaged 26 to 32 countries in our genre sets, against 10 to 15 for the Australian shows. A show charting in 60 countries is selling a global audience and will not discount for a single-market buy; a show charting in one is selling you the whole audience.

How to Vet a Show Before Sponsoring or Pitching It

A country benchmark tells you whether a quote is in range. It does not tell you whether the show is worth buying, or, if you are a publicist, worth pitching a guest to. This is the four-step process CastFox is built around, and it applies to a $400 flat-fee buy in Perth and a $40,000 network package in New York alike.

Discover: find the local inventory, not just the chart

Start from the audience and the market, not the genre. As the overlap numbers show, a top-40 chart position in Canada or Australia is often held by an American show, so discovery has to reach past the chart into sub-genres and shows that never chart at all. CastFox Discover searches 5M+ shows by topic, audience, and country, and surfaces the shows already carrying sponsors in your category, which is the strongest single signal that a show sells ads and that its audience converts.

Analyze: check reach and chart record before you check the price

For each show, look at four things: audience estimates, chart consistency across the 2026 snapshots, how many of the 78 countries it charts in, and the sponsors and promo codes we have detected in its episodes. A show with a top-10 average rank in its home market, reach in one country, and three of your competitors already running is priced very differently from a show with the same download claim and none of that. CastFox Analyze puts all four on one profile.

Organize: build the plan by market, not by show

Group the shortlist by country and by role, and record the quoted CPM, the currency, the download figure it was quoted on, the flight length, and the promo code for each line. Cross-border plans go wrong at reconciliation, when a show turns out to have been counted twice in two markets. CastFox Organize keeps the list live with the show data updating underneath it.

Pitch: contact the right person in the right market

Most shows under 100,000 downloads are sold by the host or a producer rather than a network, and that is even more true outside the US. The ask that gets answered is short: who you are, why the audience fits, what you want to buy, and the budget in their currency. CastFox Pitch gives you verified contacts and drafts the outreach from the show's own data. The same vetting works for guesting; see Podcast Guesting vs Podcast Advertising for when each channel is the better buy.

Methodology: Where These Numbers Come From

CPM and flat-fee ranges in this post are typical 2026 market ranges and are labeled as such everywhere they appear. They are not CastFox measurements.

Everything else is CastFox data. For each of the four countries and each of the three genres we ranked the Apple Podcasts top 100 across the snapshots we hold between February 24 and October 13, 2026 (28 snapshots for the US, Canada, and Australia; 25 for the UK, where the latest snapshot in this window is October 3), took the 40 shows with the strongest chart record, and ran sponsor detection over their recent episodes: 15,100 episode records and 8,799 detected host-read ad reads in total across the twelve genre-and-country sets. A show that charts in more than one country is counted in each of those countries, so the totals describe chart sets, not unique shows. Ad reads are counted across a show's recent episodes, not by listener country, so the per-episode figures measure how heavily sponsored a market's chart inventory is, not how much of a given ad was targeted locally. Country reach is the number of the 78 countries CastFox tracks in which a show appeared in the top 100 on the latest snapshot. Detection is not exhaustive: a show can carry sponsors we did not detect, so treat every count as a floor. You can monitor these shows in CastFox and see the underlying episodes on each profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does podcast advertising cost in the UK?

A host-read mid-roll on a UK show typically costs $20 to $40 per thousand downloads in 2026, usually quoted in pounds, with news and business at the top of the band and comedy at the bottom. That is a typical market range rather than a CastFox statistic. CastFox data shows the UK chart is the least contested of the four major English-language markets: 1,479 detected ad reads across 3,590 episode records of the top 40 business, comedy, and news shows, 0.41 per episode, with only 50 of 120 chart slots carrying any detected sponsor.

What is the cheapest country to advertise on podcasts?

Of the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, Australia has the lowest typical CPM band and the largest pool of local shows likely to accept a flat-fee test, and the UK has the least competition for inventory at 0.41 ad reads per episode. Canada has low list prices but the busiest chart, because 67 of its 120 top-40 slots in these genres are US shows that already carry US sponsors.

Are podcast advertising rates in Canada lower than in the US?

Typical Canadian rates are lower, roughly $18 to $38 per thousand against $25 to $50 in the US, but the discount is smaller than it looks for chart-leading shows. Two thirds of the Canadian top-40 slots in business, comedy, and news are held by US shows, and in Canadian comedy it is 30 of 40, so those placements are American inventory priced accordingly. Genuinely Canadian shows are a smaller pool: 29 of the 120 slots chart in two or fewer countries, and 9 of those carry detected ads.

Which country's podcast chart has the most sponsors?

The United States, by sponsor depth: among the 60 most active sponsors in each genre, 57 ran across two or more top US comedy shows and 60 across two or more top US news shows, against 16 and 15 in the UK. Canada has the highest ad density per episode at 0.76, but mostly because its chart is full of US shows carrying their US sponsor load.

Do podcast ads need to be bought separately in each country?

For shows that chart in a single market, yes, and those are the majority of local inventory in Australia, where 48 of 120 chart slots are shows charting in two or fewer countries. For shows that chart in dozens of countries, you are buying one episode heard everywhere, so a second buy in another market is double paying. Check the country count on the show's CastFox profile before you split a budget by market.

Which brands advertise across all four markets?

Shopify, BetterHelp, NordVPN, and Chime were detected on top-40 shows in all four countries in our window. Several large sponsors stayed domestic: HSBC UK, Octopus Energy, Lloyds, and Hiscox appeared only in the UK sets, BMO Global Asset Management and Banque Nationale Courtage Direct only in Canada, and Pearler, Betashares, Skye Wealth, Sphere Home Loans, and Better Beer only in Australia.
